It can be a challenge to make heads or tails of what’s en vogue these days. Personal style is, well, personal, but there are talented individuals who make it their business to help others put themselves together in a way that captures individual personality. A personal shopper or stylist will take into consideration styles that suit your body type, lifestyle and budget. Many people already have great pieces in their wardrobe and just need a few updates and suggestions. Others might be starting a new career and need a whole new wardrobe. Some look to experts for advice on outfits for a special event, interview or television appearance. Seattle may have been responsible for the whole grunge scene, but Pacific Northwesterners know how to rock lots of other looks, too.

Rebecca Dashow
Stylist and Wardrobe Consultant
Tacoma, WA (253) 355-2050
www.rebeccadashow.com

Rebecca Dashow’s love of fashion became evident early on when, at age two, she threw a diva-style fit in a department store over a dress she fell in love with. At that time, she began learning the importance of clothing’s fit and quality from her grandmothers. Rebecca developed a passion for costuming and sewing in college when she majored in theater at USC. She learned how to shop vintage and make a budget stretch, supporting herself through floral and event design. These experiences led to Rebecca opening an upscale women’s clothing boutique on Tacoma’s up-and-coming St. Helens Avenue. Dame Lola was the place to be for fashion advice, unique and fashionable pieces, trunk shows and fashion shows, and was a delight to Rebecca’s customers from 2004 to 2009. Since closing Dame Lola and having her baby boy, Rebecca has been busy blogging about fashion and loving watching her blog’s readership grow. Rebecca’s own style leans heavily toward gypsy/bohemian, but when styling her clientele and offering closet/wardrobe makeovers and virtual makeovers, she interviews her clients to get a good sense of who they are and what they need. Rebecca works within her own personal desire to “help you feel good about the way you dress, smile at the image in the mirror and enjoy playing dress up each day.”

Kim Brooks
Stylist, Personal Shopper
Bellevue, WA
(425) 765-3589
www.kimbrooksstyle.com

From an early age, Kim Brooks had an interest in and an eye for color, layout and merchandising, which led to employment in fashion retail and retail management before attending university. She also completed a makeup artistry program at John Casablancas and attended the Art Institute where she studied design. Life and kids happened and it wasn’t until three years ago that she came up for air and realized she needed to return to her love, which was the world of fashion and styling. Pink Pagoda Style was created to assist women and men in finding their own style. She has now rebranded herself as Kim Brooks Style, where she offers closet consultations, person shopping, public speaking and styling models for photo shoots. Kim does not put a priority on designer labels, opting instead to help her clients develop a complete wardrobe that combines quality must-have items with fun, but less expensive items to add some punch. Kim’s own style includes clean lines with a little edge and maybe a “little burst of preppy every now and again.” It is a proud moment for this stylist when there is a breakthrough with a client that allows him or her to see that they can feel good about how they look in their clothing, despite whatever has been causing them self doubt.
